Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly conducts consultations on Civil Society (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021

The Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly was directed by the House to review and report on the Civil Society (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021 (Private Member Bill) in the 6th Session of the Third Parliament.

 

As a part of the Legislative process, the Committee conducted two days of consultation meetings with Civil Society Organization Authority (CSOA), Royal Monetary Authority, Royal Audit Authority, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gross National Happiness Commission, Department of Law and Order and Department of Revenue and Customs from 11-12th October, 2021 at Lhen-zom Khangzang. The consultation meeting noted some of the challenges faced by the CSOA and other agencies while dealing with the CSOs such as inadequate funds, under-staffing and sustainability of CSOs in the long run.

 

The Committee plans to conduct another round of consultation with other relevant agencies  in the following days.
