The Parliamentary Committee on GNH and SDGs meets with the Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies(CBS)

The Parliamentary Committee on Gross National Happiness (GNH) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) met with the Centre for Bhutan Studies (CBS) for its first consultative meeting, this afternoon. 


The meeting commenced with the welcome note by the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Rinzin Jamtsho, NA. The officials from CBS made their presentations on GNH Concept, GNH Measurement and GNH Business Certification. 


A historical background on the concept of GNH was presented to the Members. The concept of GNH was promulgated by His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo in 1974, and since then this holistic and sustainable approach for development is also enshrined in the Constitution. 


GNH measurement/quantification has 4 pillars, 9 domains, 32 indicators and 126 variables. These are the alternative tools for an individual and for the country to determine the level of GNH to measure wellbeing and happiness, progress or development.


GNH in Business arena is a certification tool motivated to change, holistic monitoring and the reporting framework.


An inclusive question and answer session ensued after the presentations. The Deputy Chairperson, Hon. Kesang Chuki Dorjee, NC of the Committee thanked the officials for their informative presentations.
