The Parliamentary Committee for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response meets the Minister for Labour and Human Resources

Acknowledging the impact of the COVID-19 on the Employment and relevant issues, the Parliamentary Committee for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response met with the Minister and officials from Labour and Human Resources today. This is in alignment to the Committee trying to comprehend the preparedness of the Government in response to COVID-19 and to enable the Committee to provide better support.

The team presenting on the Situational Report on Employment highlighted on Current Labour market situations, Impact of COVID-19 and initiatives to address the challenges. The presentation gave insights into addressing unemployment through several Employment & Training Facilitation Programs. The presentation also included the objectives and strategies of the upcoming Build Bhutan Project, one of the initiatives to address the employment challenges and reprioritization of skilling programs towards IT and Home-based Industries.

The Minister and the officials also clarified the concerns raised by the Committee Members on workplace security in the construction sector, Gender sensitive working environment, wage rates to attract the youths in construction sectors and distortion implications and several other issues.
