The Parliamentary Committee for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response meets the team from the Agriculture and Forest Ministry.

With the objective to clearly understand the preparedness of the Government and enhance the support of the Committee to the Government, the Committee has been meeting and getting information from the Ministries and the relevant agencies. Today, the Parliamentary Committee for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response met with the Minister for Agriculture and Forest and the team to get an insight into the Country’s preparedness regarding food and essential goods security.


The Minister made a comprehensive presentation on the Food Security Plan 2020-2022, going beyond COVID-19 for Food & Nutrition. The Agriculture Stimulus Plan aims to provide food security through domestic production, employment creation, Income Generation via two approaches: production by mass through farmers and mass production by corporate farms. The presentation also included the Total Stimulus Budget, Agriculture Economic Zone with Buyback Program and its strategy, Buyback Stimulus Plan, Fallow Land available, Work Plan, Enterprises creation under the Ministry, Impact from Stimulus Plan, 12 FYP Frontloading, Employment Generation through RNR Enterprises, Temporary Employments, Fund & Investments by Agencies and other Broad Activities plans.


The team  also responded to the concerns raised by the Members on sustainability of the local products,  system of price control of both imported and local products,  Sustainability of the local productions, Leasing of Government and Private Land, survivability of the Country in case of lockdown or banning of imports commodities, Loans from CSI banks and technical clearances of the Commercial Farming.

The Committee will be meeting with other Ministries and relevant agencies from next week.
