As directed by the House on 24th January, 2020, the Chairperson of the Women Children and Youth Committee presented the additional recommendations to the House today.
The Chairperson reported that the recommendation for separate rooms for breastfeeding mothers in the detention centers was already in place according to the section 35 (c) and 36 Prison Act of Bhutan 2009, where the child is allowed to live with the mother in the detention centers up to the age of nine with necessary facilities. The Committee submitted three more recommendations pertaining to the safety of women working late, capacity development programs for women and increasing the number of women in parliament from 18% from 15.3%.
The House voted and adopted all the Three additional recommendations along with the Five recommendations submitted by the Committee with 39 Yes, 4 No and 2 Abstaining out of 45 Members present and voting.
