Posted on :03 December 2019

The Speaker is currently leading a team from the National Assembly of Bhutan to sensitize Local Governments on the role of parliament and to promote the use of Virtual Zomdu from 30th November to 12th December 2019. The team is visiting eight Dzongkhags of Gasa, Wangduephodrang, Dagana, Tsirang, Sarpang, Zhemgang, Bumthang and Trongsa to sensitize local government leaders and the local civil servants on the role of parliament and also to advocate on using Virtual Zomdu (VZ) facility installed by the Parliament of Bhutan.

Today, the team visited the Community Centre of Thedtsho Gewog under Wangduephodrang and had a Virtual Zomdu Session with the Minister for Work and Human Settlement (MoWHS). During the VZ session attended by the Mangmi and Gaydrung of Thedtsho Gewog, they discussed on the black topping of the road between Khuruthang in Punakha and Bajo town in Wangduephodrang. They discussed on the challenges and the way forward and efforts required from both parties. The Minister, after the discussion, said that he was not able to visit his constituency as often as he would like to due to the distance. He added that he looked forward to using Virtual Zomdu facility  to connect with the people in his constituency.

Virtual Zomdu is an innovative way for the Parliamentarians to interact and connect with their constituencies and was started in 2014 with support from UNDP.
