The National Assembly of Bhutan celebrates One Year Anniversary.

The  Members and staff  of the National Assembly celebrated  its First Year Anniversary on 4th Nov, 2019 at the Grand National Assembly Hall with a reflection on achievements of the past one year, challenges and way forward. 

Hon’ble Speaker in his opening remarks, highlighted the importance of looking back on the achievement, learning from the experiences of the past one year and the need to plan a way forward. The Secretary General made a brief presentations on the major activities and key achievements  while the Director presented the critical reflections from the  Hon’ble Members and the secretariat staff.  

Hon’ble Dorji Wangdi representing the Opposition also presented a reflection of the past year. In the Way Forward, it was suggested that the National Assembly conduct three Sessions a year, Spring Session (45 days), Budget Session (10 days) and Fall Session (45 days) to enable exhaustive debate and deliberation on bills resulting in better laws. Members also raised the issue of inadequacy of Budget to effectively carry out oversight functions, lack of awareness of roles and responsibilities of the Members of Parliament by the public and  feedback on secretariat services to the members. 

A cake was cut during the tea break by the Hon’ble Speaker to mark  the successful   one year of the  Third National Assembly, which was constituted on 31st October,  2018.
