Hon'ble Speaker, Wangchuk Namgyel attends the First Executive Council Meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Rize, Turkey.

A four-Member delegation from the Parliament of Bhutan led by the Hon’ble Speaker is attending the first Executive Council Meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) scheduled from26-28th October, 2019 at Rize, Turkey.


Parliamentary delegations from the following members countries are  participating in the meeting; Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Turkey, Shura Council of Qatar and the National Parliament of Timor-Leste as observers.


The Meeting will be discussing the Nomination of the APA President and Vice Presidents for 2020-21 and APA president for 2022-23, Establishing Cooperation with other Organizations, Establishment of Working Group on Statutory Documents and also  consider and adopt the draft resolutions of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs, Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development, Standing Committee on Political Affairs and the Standing Committee on Budget and Planning.


After the meeting, the member delegates will be attending a social program to visit the Natural and Historical Sites of Black Sea region.

The Hon'ble Speaker  also called on H.E. Mr. Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey during the visit and exchanged views on the importance of maintaining close collaborations between the Parliaments.


The Asian Parliamentary Assembly fosters cooperation and coordination among the Parliaments in Asia for the promotion of peace and respect for human rights and humanitarian principles and has 44 member countries and 16 observers. The request for full membership of Qatar and Timor-Leste were adopted by acclamation during this meeting. 


The Parliament of Bhutan has been a member of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly since 2006  and also hosted the APA Standing Committee Meeting on Social and Cultural Committee in  September 2017.
