Courtesy Call- on to Hon’ble Speaker by the UNICEF Representative

The new UNICEF Representative, Mr. Will Parks called on to Hon’ble Speaker on 12th August, 2019. The Hon’ble Speaker extended a formal welcome to Mr. Will Parks to Bhutan and to the National Assembly. 

Mr. Will Parks expressed his congratulatory wishes for being elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly and thanked the Parliament for all the support provided to children and young people of Bhutan. He also thanked the Parliamentarians for participating and supporting the Certificate course on social policy which was conducted this July in Haa. He expressed his expectation for further support for the same. He also sought advice on how UNICEF could further strengthen the collaboration between the Parliament and the UNICEF and proposed partnership visit to schools and to the programs that are being  implemented in the country from which the Members could come back to the concerned Committee with first hand experiences.

The Speaker agreed to see the possibility of the Members participating in the partnership visit and mentioned that the Parliament has established a good foundation on SDG and is working towards trying to harmonize SDG into National Plan. Ending the call-on, the Speaker mentioned that he looks forward to working together with the new UNICEF Representatives.
