Call on by Parliamentary Delegation from Japan

A twelve-member Parliamentary Delegation from Japan, led by Mr. Hiroshi Moriyama, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party and House of Representatives in the Diet called on Hon’ble Speaker today.


Speaker extended his warm welcome to the delegation and expressed his gratitude for visiting Bhutan. The Speaker shared about constant nurturing of democracy in Bhutan by our His Majesty the Kings since the 1950s and also shared briefly about the Parliament proceedings. Speaker mentioned that he is aware of the existence of the Japan-Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship League and assured to discuss with the Members of Parliament to establish a Bhutan-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group. The Speaker expressed his interest in corresponding and learning from Japanese Parliament. He also thanked the Government and the Parliament of Japan for the generous support extended till now to Bhutan and Bhutanese Parliament. The Speaker also mentioned that the people of Bhutan are excited with the upcoming visit of the Japanese Prince Hisahito to Bhutan.


Mr. Hiroshi Moriyama thanked the Speaker for receiving them and introduced the members of the delegation. He conveyed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Bhutan for the long-lasting diplomatic relations and for the warm hospitality extended by Bhutan during the visit of Princess Mako of Japan in 2017. He also expressed his happiness to see JICA volunteers working together hand in hand with Bhutanese. He also extended an invitation to the Speaker to visit Japan and mentioned that they are willing to extend the friendship between the two parliaments to learn from each other. 

After the meeting, the delegation visited the Parliament Hall.
