Motion to Amend the RSTA Act to increase the load carrying capacity of Trucks.

Posted on :30 May 2019

The Member from Dewathang-Gomdar constituency moved the motion to: (1) Review the RSTA Act and refer to the relevant section of the Act for the amendment so that the authority to increase the load carrying capacity is liberally vested with a relevant and competent authority; and (2) Government to take immediate measures to resolve the current problem faced by truckers since review and amendment of the Act would take time. The Member from Bumdeling-Jamkar Constituency seconded the motion.

The House generally agreed on the problems faced by the truck operators due to the cap on the load carrying capacity on the trucks and the need to amend the RSTA Act. The House voted to amend the RSTA Act to increase the load carrying capacity of trucks with 29 Yes votes, 12 No  Votes and 1 Abstaining, out of 42 Members present and voting and passed the Motion. On the second recommendation for the Government to immediately introduce measures to increase gross vehicle weight (GVW) of trucks, all of the 42 Members supported the motion with a show of hands, thereby also passing the second Motion.

Attached is the Motion presented to the House.
