Members of Parliament interact with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)

Hon’ble Speaker and the Members of the National Assembly visited the CSO stalls and interacted with the CSO representatives at Terma Linca on 29th April, 2019.


Welcoming the Hon’ble Members and all the CSO representatives, Secretary General of the National Assembly Secretariat mentioned that the interactive session was organized to enable  Hon’ble Members to better understand the roles played by various CSOs  so that they can tap the strength of CSOs in Committee functions.


Thanking the Parliament of Bhutan for giving the importance to the CSOs, the Chairperson of Civil Society Organization Authority (CSOA) presented on the CSOA’s vision and missions, its challenges and requested help from the Parliament of Bhutan to enhance the growth of CSOs in Bhutan.


The Hon’ble Members visited the stalls put up by CSOs and the interactive session ended with a detailed discussion on the list of requests for support presented by CSOA chairperson and way forward for the collaboration between NAB committees and CSOs. 21 CSOs participated in the session.


In the afternoon session, officials from the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) led by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor made a presentation on “The state of Research in Bhutan”. The presentation highlighted the need for establishment of an apex research institution/body with a mandate to provide approval for complex research questions in Bhutan.
