Prime Minister presents annual state of the nation report

The Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering  Tobgay today presented the annual report on the state of the nation including legislative plans and priorities of the government to the Druk Gyalpo and the  joint sitting of parliament as per article 10 (10)  of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan.


Presenting the report over a span of three hours, the Prime Minister underscored that Bhutan remain a country relishing in peace and prosperity under the dynamic leadership of His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo. The Prime Minister also reported that while economic prosperity is important, peace, stability and sovereignty are more important.


Some of the highlights of the report was that the government had achieved 99.8% of rural household electrification, 1,657 of farm roads were build in the last four years and 94% of rural Bhutan has mobile connection. It was also reported that most of the targets of the 11th plan have been met and 90% of the plan goals have been realized thus far.


The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund had also predicted that Bhutan would continue to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The Prime Minister also went on to report that Bhutan currently has a healthy foreign currency reserve of USD 1.067 billion.
