The National Assembly today unanimously passed the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Bill 2017 after all 44 Members present voted in favour of the Bill.
Before the voting was held on the Bill, the House resolved to retain clauses 170 and 171 regarding offence relating to dealing with a shell bank. Clause 170 pronounces that it is an offence if a person deals with a shell bank while clause 171 provides for payment of fine if the offence in clause 170 is committed. The two clauses were objected yesterday by some of the Members emphasizing it not being in synergy with clause 168 (2) of the Bill.
