Economic and Finance Committee delves into the balance of trade

The Economic and Finance Committee conducted a two-day consultative meeting with various sectors including the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Royal Monetary Authority, Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bhutan Post, start-up, IMPEX and few clearing & forwarding agents on the issues pertaining to the ease of doing business and trade deficits leading to negative balance of trade.  

 

The Committee and stakeholders had a comprehensive discussion on the country's economic situation, status of reserves, inflation rates and way forwards of concerned agencies for the economic growth. Further, the stakeholders expressed their challenges and issues confronted while doing business and presented immediate government interventions to resolve the practical issues.

 

The Committee will be consulting IMPEX and farmer’s cooperatives located in the southern part of the country to apprehend their concerns and provide recommendations to the relevant agencies with an objective of improving ease of doing business and replacing imports with domestically produced goods.
