Posted on :30 August 2022

The Parliament of Bhutan conducted sensitization on the Civil Society Organizations (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2022 for the officials of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Civil Society Organizations Authority, Royal Bhutan Police, and other relevant agencies. The sensitization was conducted to advocate the implementers on the intent and principles of the Amendments and to have a clear understanding of the interpretation of the Act.

The Civil Society Organizations (Amendment) Act originated as a Private Member Bill in the National Council and was passed in the 7th session of the Third Parliament. During the sensitization, the Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee presented the Act's background, structure, and salient features. The presentation was followed by a thorough discussion of the doubts and opinions raised by the stakeholders on the various provisions of the Act.

A copy of the Civil Society Organizations (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2022 was also handed over to the Civil Society Organizations Authority.
