Parliament of Bhutan sensitizes relevant stakeholders on Biodiversity Act of Bhutan 2022

Posted on :30 August 2022

The Parliament of Bhutan conducted sensitization on the Biodiversity Act of Bhutan 2022 with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, National Biodiversity Centre and other relevant agencies.

This initiative is the first one by the National Assembly Secretariat and will continue henceforth with other Acts passed by the Parliament. The Biodiversity Act originated as a Government Bill and was passed in the 7th session of the Third Parliament. The main purpose is to advocate implementation and other relevant agencies on the intent and principles of the Act and to have a clear understanding of the interpretation of the Act by the agencies.

During the sensitization, the Environment and Climate Change Committee presented the background, structure and salient features of the Act. The committee also entertained questions from the relevant agencies and handed over a copy of the Biodiversity Act of Bhutan 2022 to the National Biodiversity Centre. The programme is also intended to disseminate information on the Biodiversity Act to other agencies.
