House begins its deliberation on Jabmi Amendment Bill

The House began its deliberation on the Jabmi Amendment Bill of Bhutan 2014. The Chairperson of the Legislative Committee, Hon Member Lekey Dorji informed that while amendment of 16 sections was proposed initially, the Legislative committee reviewed all 71 sections of the Jabmi Act of 2003. National Assembly pays tribute on the passing away of former Members of Parliament

The National Assembly of Bhutan is deeply saddened over the untimely demise of two former Members of Parliament. It is with great sorrow that we mourn the demise of Mr. Prem Kumar Gurung who expired on 4th April 2015 and Mr. Prahlad Gurung who expired on 27th February 2015.

His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo appoints the Secretary General of the National Assembly

On the 22nd of May, 2015, His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo appointed Mr. Sangay Duba, Dzongdag of Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag as the Secretary General of the National Assembly as per section 19 (n) of Article 2 of the Constitution.

The new Secretary General was granted dhar in the Golden Throne Room of Tashichhodzong.

The Member from South Thimphu constituency submitted on the promotion of the national language ‘Dzongkha’ and the national dress as petitioned by Thimphu Dzongkhag. Enterprise Registration Bill introduced in the National Assembly

The Minister for Economic Affairs introduced the Enterprise Registration Bill of Bhutan 2015 to the House. The Minister informed that the Bill was aimed to make the economic institutions in the country viable and provide legal entity to enterprises.  It was informed that at present only two percent of the business entities in the country were covered by the Companies Act of 2000.

Deliberations conclude on Public Debt Management

The joint sitting extensively deliberated on the report by the Public Accounts Committee on Public Debt Management. The deliberation began with some Members submitting that while concerns should be expressed on country’s debt, one should not worry too much.
