Parliament declares 15 Dzongkhag Thromdes and 18 Yenlag Thromdes

The joint sitting of Parliament endorsed the Dzongkhag Thromdes for 15 Dzongkhags. The proposals for Dzongkhag Thromdes was put to vote one after the other with 15 of 16 proposals securing three fourth of the votes as required by the Constitution. National Assembly passes the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill and the Annual Budget

The National Assembly unanimously passed the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2014-15 to the tune of Nu.44, 160.531 million. Similarly, the House passed the Annual Budget for the financial year 2015-16 which amounts to Nu. 50,713.707 million. The deliberation on the Companies Bill of Bhutan 2015 concluded in the National Assembly.  Deliberating on section 208 pertaining to making of regulations for the qualifications appropriate for a company secretary, the House resolved that the Regulatory Authority shall make regulations regarding the qualifications appropriate for a company secretary.

Continuing its deliberation on the Companies Bill of Bhutan 2015, the House endorsed 177 sections so far. Extensive deliberations ensued on section 148 pertaining to voting in board meetings. The joint sitting of Parliament continued its deliberation on the proposal for declaration of Thromdes. The joint sitting so far endorsed Dzongkhag Thromdes of Bumthang, Chukha, Dagana, Gasa, Haa, Lhuentse, Punakha, Samtse, Thimphu, Trashigang, Trashiyangtse, Trongsa, Tsirang, Wangduephodrang and Zhemgang.

Third reading commences on the Companies Bill

The third reading on the Companies Bill of Bhutan 2015 began in the National Assembly. The Chairperson of the Economic & Private Sector Development Committee, Hon Sonam Dondup Dorjee informed that the committee had reviewed the Bill and presented a total of 50 recommendations to the House.

Parliament commends Bhutan’s record setting in the Guinness Book of World Records

On behalf of the Parliament, Hon Speaker Jigme Zangpo expressed his appreciation for the record set by Bhutan in the Guinness Book of World Records by planting 49,672 saplings in one hour by 100 volunteers yesterday at Kuenselphodrang in Thimphu. He also expressed his gratitude to Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck for her patronage in making the attempt successful.
