The National Assembly re-deliberates on the Jabmi (Amendment) Bill 2015

The Minister for Home & Cultural Affairs, the Member in-charge of the Bill informed the House that the National Council has deliberated on the Jabmi (Amendment) Bill 2015 and has transmitted amendments made on the Bill to the National Assembly. EU Officials call on Speaker Jigme Zangpo

The delegates from the European Union led by Ms. Maria Castillo Fernandez, Head of Division,  European External Action Service called on the Hon Speaker Jigme Zangpo earlier this afternoon.

The Hon Speaker welcomed the delegation to Gyelyong Tshokhang and expressed his deepest condolences for the victims of the terror attacks in Paris, France earlier this month. The meeting with EU delegates focused on parliamentary affairs

Parliament declares remaining Thromdes

The joint sitting of Parliament today declared Betekha as the Yenlag Thromde of Paro Dzongkhag and Denchi as the Dzongkhag Thromde of Pemagatshel Dzongkhag while Nganglam was declared as the Yenlag Thromde of Pemagatshel Dzongkhag.

Joint sitting of Parliament deliberates on remaining Thromdes

Today, the Minister for Works & Human Settlement moved the motion to deliberate on the Yenlag Thromde of Paro Dzongkhag. The Dzongkhag Tshogdu of Paro had proposed Jetshephu to be declared as the Yenlag Thromde. However, some of the Members submitted that Betekha was more feasible to be declared as the Yenlag Thromde given its larger population and potential to become a commercially viable place.

Status of hydro projects questioned
The Minister for Economic Affairs was questioned by the Member from Radhi-Sakteng constituency on the status of the KuriGongri, Sunkosh and three Joint Venture hydropower projects of Bunakha, Amochhu and Wangchhu. In his response, the Minister informed that given the excellent relations between Bhutan and India, the works on hydro power projects were progressing smoothly.

Civil & Criminal Procedure Code and the Penal Code of Bhutan to be reviewed

The Chairperson of the Legislative committee moved the motion to review and amend the Civil & Criminal Procedure Code 2011 and the Penal Code of Bhutan 2011. He informed that the Legislative committee will work closely with relevant committees such as the Human Rights committee and Women, Children & Youth committee in reviewing the provisions of the above laws.
