House re-deliberates on the Customs Bill 2015

Today, the House re-deliberated on the Customs Bill 2015. The deliberations were based on the recommendations proposed by the National Council. The National Council had proposed 34 recommendations.

Paris Agreement tabled for ratification

The Minister for Agriculture & Forests moved the motion to introduce the Paris Agreement to the House today. Following a unanimous endorsement of the motion, the Minister informed the House on the objectives of the Paris Agreement. He said that one of the objectives of the agreement was limiting the increase in average global temperature.

Information, Communication & Media Bill introduced

The Minister for Information & Communications introduced the Information, Communication & Media Bill 2016 to the House for the first and second reading. The Minister said that the Bill was tabled mainly because the existing Act of 2006 had to be revised in the face of changing time. He also expressed that the new Act would enhance timely service delivery to people in information, communication and media sectors.

National Assembly unanimously passes the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill 2016

The National Assembly today unanimously passed the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill 2016 after all 44 Members present voted in favour of the Bill to be passed. The Speaker of the House expressed appreciation to all parties involved in drafting the Bill which he said would benefit the country and people.

House commences third reading on the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill

Today, the House commenced its third reading on the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill 2016. The Chairperson of the Legislative Committee submitted that the recommendations of the National Council and the Legislative Committee were presented for the third reading on the Bill. He also informed that consultations were held with various agencies and stakeholders before drawing committee’s recommendations.

Minister for Economic Affairs presents report on ‘Fronting’

The Minister for Economic Affairs presented a report on the study carried out to amend relevant laws to define ‘Fronting’ as a criminal offence as resolved during the 7th Session of the National Assembly. The Minister reported that the ministry had formed a committee consisting of members from relevant departments which had reviewed relevant laws and rules including the Penal Code of Bhutan and the Anti Corruption Act.

Finance Minister presents report on establishing a division to manage seized properties

The Finance Minister presented a report on establishing a division under the Department of National Properties (DNP) to manage seized goods and properties as per the resolution of the 7th session.
