National Assembly offers prayer

Members and the Secretariat Staff of the National Assembly led by Hon’ble Speaker, Hon’ble Opposition Leader, Hon’ble Education Minister and Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Forests visited Dechenphu Lhakhang and Tashichhodzong Dukhang to offer prayers for the successful conduct of the Fourth Session of the Third Parliament.

The Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee (HRFRC) conducted consultative meetings with the Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) Chairpersons and Royal Civil Service Commission today at Lhen-zom Khangzang. The meetings were chaired by Hon’ble Jurmi Wangchuk, the chairperson of the Committee.

The Members of the Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee (HRFRC) attended a presentation on the Lhengye Zhungtshog Bill of Kingdom of Bhutan 2020 by the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee (SCAC) of the National Council today at Lhen-zom Khangzang. The presentation was presided over by the Chairperson of the HRFRC, Hon’ble Jurmi Wangchuk.  The Hon'ble Speaker also attended the presentation.

The 206th Extraordinary Virtual Session of the Governing Council of the IPU concludes

On the third and final day of the  206th Extraordinary Session of the Governing Council of the IPU held virtually, the  New President Mr. Duarte Pacheco  of the IPU delivered his Acceptance Speech. This was followed by congratulatory messages from the  President of the Forum of the Women Members of Parliament, Forum of Young Members of Parliament, Geopolitical Groups and other Governing Council Members.

The 206th Governing Council elects Mr. Dutarte Pacheco of Portugal as the 30th President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Mr. Dutarte Pacheco of Portugal has been elected the new President of the IPU during an extraordinary virtual session of the IPU’s Governing Council, with an absolute majority of online votes.  Mr. Pacheco has served as the Member of Assembly of the Republic of Portuguese Parliament since 1991 assuming different positions in the Bureau of the Parliament. He also has an ocean of experience working with the IPU.

Governing Council Members vote for the next President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The First Day of the 206th Session of the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Members of 171 Governing Council and  participants from 180 Member Parliaments met today in an extraordinary virtual session. The meeting was Chaired by Acting President Chen Goumin  and co-chaired by IPU Secretary General, Martin Chungong.

The Speaker joined the United Nations (UN) in Bhutan to observe the 75th United Nations Day today as the Chief Guest. The UN marked its 75th Anniversary today and reinvigorated the UN’s founding mission - to promote human dignity, protect human rights, respect international law, and save humanity from war.
