Call on by the Deputy Managing Director, European External Action Service

Mrs. Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director, European External Action Service and other members of the EU delegation for the 14th Round Table Meeting, called on the Hon’ble Speaker on 15th March 2019.


The Speaker extended a warm welcome to the team and expressed his appreciation on the good relationships between Bhutan and the EU who has been a good development partner to Bhutan.


Mrs. Paola Pampaloni expressed her happiness for being invited for the 14th RTM which is a very big event. She also expressed her happiness for having learnt that the financial assistances are going into the right direction. Further, she informed that the EU will continue to offer development financial assistance irrespective of the country’s graduation from LDC.


The team urged the Parliament of Bhutan to maintain good connection with the Chairperson of the EU South Asian Parliamentary Committee, which is yet to undergo election in May, to further the assistance from EU. The team also mentioned that they are currently exploring the possibilities on the support from the European Parliament for the capacity building and the e-parliament for the Parliament of Bhutan.


Mrs. Paola Pampaloni mentioned on the Framework Agreement on European Investment Bank which has opened up for re-negotiation and hope it will be ratified by the Parliament of Bhutan. She further invited the Hon’ble Speaker and the Members of the Parliament for an exchange visit.


The role of Civil Society in the working of Government, the Country’s presentation and review of UPR, ERASMUS scholarship for Bhutanese Students were some of the areas discussed during the call on.


After the call on the team visited the Parliament Hall.
