The House continued deliberation on the 12 FYP

In the second day of deliberation on the 12 FYP and on the National Key Result Areas 3, Members pointed out the importance of Roads as the key to economic development as well as boost agricultural sector. Improvement of health, education and living standards to narrow the gap between the rich and poor.  Key indicators to reduce multidimensional poverty line from 5.5 % to below 5 % was also discussed. While discussing the NAKRA 4- Vibrant Culture and Tradition, the House agreed on the need to increase efforts to preserve and promote culture and tradition. However, Members questioned setting the target of over 95 % of people enjoying sufficiency in speaking native language. Questions were also raised on what “native language” referred to. If it was referring to the national language or local dialect. The need for improving the dzongkha content in local TV programs was raised. The Home Minister clarified that not enough efforts were made to promote the native language and that the government will look into school curriculum among other plans and programs to promote culture and traditions.

 

The House will continue deliberation on the rest of the Key Result Areas tomorrow.
