Member from Lhamoi Zingkha-Tashiding constituency asked the Agriculture Minister on the plans and programs to support the farmers affected by citrus diseases.  

In response the Agriculture Minister informed the House that  in 2017 the country produced  28,000  metric ton of mandarin and exported 16,000 mt earning  Nu. 479 million in the year. He said that   reports have been received that production has improved and export increased in 2018. With regard to the support to farmers, the Ministry continues to carry out research and trainings are being conducted for the farmers on new technologies and best practices.  The government to support the farmers have allocated Nu. 10 million for capacity development and improve orchard management and quality control. The Ministry also targets to increase production of mandarin to 67,000 mt by the end of the current plan period. Support to farmers and study tour in the region will also be explored.  Inclusion of Water supply as a Flagship program in the 12 FYP is expected to address the water supply concerns.  The government will continue to explore means and programs to improve production to resolve the problems faced by the people.
