Courtesy call on to Hon’ble Speaker by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Bhutan

His Excellency Pham Sanh Chau and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy made a courtesy call on to the Hon’ble Speaker on 7 January 2019.

The Speaker warmly welcomed the delegation and congratulated Ambassador Chau on his appointment as the Ambassador of Vietnam to Bhutan.

The Ambassador thanked the Speaker for the warm welcome and for meeting him. The Ambassador briefly spoke on the system and working of the Vietnamese Parliament. The Ambassador also extended invitation to the Speaker on the celebration of “Visak” in May and the inauguration of a Buddhist Temple on the special day along with other leaders in the Asian Region. The Ambassador expressed that he looked forward to further cooperation between the two Parliaments and in areas of Tourism and Hydropower.

The Speaker thanked the Ambassador for the invitation and said that Bhutan and Vietnam were similar in so many ways such as cultural, religion and development. The Speaker mentioned that the Democracy in Bhutan, a gift from the Throne to the people had laid a strong foundation and the parliamentary system is functioning well.  He expressed his wish to further parliamentary cooperation and strengthen the existing committee system taking into consideration the best practices.

Bhutan's diplomatic ties with Vietnam was signed in 2012.
