Farewell call on to the Hon’ble Speaker by the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Ms. Niamh Collier-Smith

The Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations made a farewell call on to the Hon’ble Speaker, Jigme Zangpo in the Gyelyong Tshogkhang today afternoon.  


The  Hon’ble Speaker while warmly welcoming  Ms. Niamh Collier, expressed his happiness in having worked together with UNDP for the development of the Parliament. He expressed his gratitude to Ms. Niamh and UNDP which under her  professional guidance and leadership have successfully supported the strengthening of the Parliament and the Secretariat.  The Hon’ble Speaker highlighted some significant contributions made by the UNDP such as the inception of the Virtual Zomdue - bringing parliament to the people, the review and development of the Strategic Development Plan for the National Assembly 2019-2023, strengthening of parliamentary committees and the ongoing work on the National Human Development Report- Review of 10 Years of Parliamentary Democracy.


The Deputy Resident Representative, in return expressed her pleasure and privilege to serve the Government of Bhutan  and the Parliament. She complimented the Hon’ble Speaker for being a “True Ambassador to Bhutan’s Democracy” and assured continued support from the UNDP to the Parliament.


Ms. Niamh served  three years as the Deputy Resident Representative of UN to Bhutan from June 2015-July 2018.
