Question Hour

A total of Nine questions were asked during the Question Hour in the House today. Four Questions were put to the Minister for Works and Human Settlement on the progress of Shingkhar-Gorgan road, Khibisa- Daga road construction, future plans on construction of a southern highway in the 12 FYP and status of approved budget for black topping of Gasa road. Three Questions were put to the Education Minister on measures taken to resolve the issues faced by teachers with respect to Individual Work Plans mandated by RCSC, plans to establish ECCD centers in rural areas and on the sustainability of Central Schools. Two Questions to put to the Minister for Economic Affairs on the private sector development and government’s intervention in private enterprises such as State Mining Corporation, Livestock Development Corporation etc and measures take by the government to resolve the grievances against the BOIC.

 

In response to the Questions, the Minister for Works and Human Settlement reported that after numerous discussions with the National Environment Commission, an environment impact assessment is planned to be carried out soon and construction of Shingkhar-Gorgan road will be started. With regard to Khibisa-Daga Dzong road, formation cutting have been completed and  permanent base works are being carried out and will be continued in the 12 FYP. With regard to construction of southern highway, the Minister informed that the work was temporarily stopped due to security reasons and that it would be continued in the 12 FYP. The Minister informed that the approved budget status for the blacktopping of Gasa road is about Nu.143 million and 48 km road have been blacktopped. The government is planning to complete it by October this year.

 

The Education Minister informed the House that the Ministry has reviewed the problems faced by the teachers with regard to IWP. The ministry will be discussing with the RCSC to take over the monitoring of the IWP of teachers. The Education Minister informed the House that the government plans to establish at least one ECCD centres in each Chiwog during the 12 FYP. The Minister reassured that sustainability of Central Schools was not an issue and that the government plans to establish additional central schools in the 12FYP.

 

The Minister for Economic Affairs informed the House that the government have formulated  and implemented various policies to develop the private sector and GDP has increased from Nu.100 billion to Nu.180 billion within five year and growth rate increased from 2.06% to 8% within the same time period. With regard to complaints against BOiC, both Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the Attorney General carried out investigations and cleared the office of any corruption and those found in violation were fined accordingly.
