Question Hour

During the Question Hour today, a total of six questions were asked. 3 Questions  to the Prime Minister on the increasing Youth Unemployment rate, identification of senior civil servants as PDP candidates and its constitutionality and the low GDP growth rate, 2 Questions to the Minister of Agriculture and Forests regarding measures taken by the Ministry to prevent losses to farmers auctioning off potatoes at the auction points and possibility of provision of a bigger tractor considering the difficult terrain in Khamed-Lunana, and 1 Question to the Minister for Information and Communications regarding provision of BBS TV channels and telecommunication services to the people of Soe, Naro and Lingshi Gewogs.

 

The Prime Minister informed the House that by the end of 11th Five Year Plan, some 74,000 job opportunities have been created providing employment to about to 32,000 youth and an additional of 5,500 job opportunities are being created for now. With regard to identification of candidates from civil service for PDP, the Prime Minister explained that the party not only approached civil servants but also capable private sector employees to better serve the country. Replying  to questions regarding low GDP growth rate, the Prime Minister said that delay in completion of Punatshangchhu Hydroelectric Project affected the GDP, however development of agriculture and other sectors have led to an increase in GDP to 170 billion  and Bhutan has been ranked in the list of top 10 in World Economic Development Index.

 

The Minister for Agriculture and Forest in response to the questions relating to auction yards reported that measures are being taken to address the problem of space in auction yards in Phuentsholing and is in discussion with the Food Corporation of Bhutan. With regard to provision of bigger tractor to Lunana, the Minister informed that the government is planning to provide one soon.

 

The Minister for Information and Communications responded that with the completion of construction of service center in July 2018, the government will be able to provide better BBS and telecommunication services to the people in the highlands.
