The Parliament of Bhutan releases two Parliamentary Manuals and Annual Report of the National Assembly 2016-17

The Hon’ble Speaker of the National Assembly with Hon’ble Deputy Chairperson of the National Council today released the Parliamentary Oversight Manual 2017 and the Parliamentary Committee Manual 2017. The Manuals, developed with technical and financial assistance from the International IDEA, will help in strengthening and streamlining the process of Parliamentary Committees and the oversight functions of the Parliament, which in turn will further strengthen the parliamentary democratic system in the country.


Subsequently, Hon’ble Speaker with UNICEF Representative Mr. Rudolf Schwenk launched the online KOHA library system of the National Assembly of Bhutan. The online library system, developed with financial support from UNICEF, will facilitate the Members and staff of the National Assembly to access library resources online.


Hon’ble Speaker with the Secretary General of the National Assembly released the Annual National Assembly Report for financial years 2016-2017. The Annual Report of the National Assembly highlights the achievements of the National Assembly in the past one year and the future needs and developments of the National Assembly as well as the Secretariat.


The launching ceremony was attended by some Members of Parliament, and Secretariat staff of both the Houses of parliament.


The Parliament of Bhutan would like to thank and acknowledge the supports of the International IDEA for development and printing of the two Manuals as well as printing of the Annual Report of the National Assembly 2016-17. The National Assembly of Bhutan would like to thank UNICEF for the financial support to develop online KOHA library system.


The event concluded with a photo session and high tea.
