Hon’ble Speaker meets with Ms. Stella Avallone, Minister Plenipotentiary, Federal Ministry of for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs

Ms. Stella Avallone, Minister Plenipotentiary, Head Unit for Bilateral Development Cooperation in Asia, Federal Ministry of for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, accompanied by the Resident Coordinator, made a courtesy call on to the Hon’ble Speaker in the GyelyongTshogkhang today afternoon.

 

The Hon’ble Speaker warmly welcomed Ms. Avallone and said that the Bhutan-Austrian cooperation dates back to 1968 and diplomatic relations were formally established in 1989. With Austrian development assistance Bhutan has hugely benefitted the tourism industry especially hospitality and management. He also expressed his appreciation the to the Austrian government for assistance in hydropower and other economic development projects.

 

Ms. Avallone expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome accorded to her. She expressed her deep admiration for the noble philosophy of Gross National Happiness propounded by His Majesty the King and applauded Bhutan for the pristine environment and conservation of nature.

She expressed her hopes for the continued cooperation between the two countries.

 

The Resident Coordinator, also mentioned that among other development assistances the office has also committed to support the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly to held in Thimphu this month.

 

The Hon’ble  Speaker, said that he hoped to foster relations between the two parliaments in areas of human resource development, parliamentary exchange visits and oversight functions of the Parliament. He further expressed his hopes for continued cooperation between the two countries.

Ms. Avallone, is in the country for a meeting on the Austrian-Bhutanese Development Cooperation with the GNH Commission and project implementing partners and to participate in the mid-term review of Stakeholders Consultative Workshop of the ADC Bhutan Country Strategy 2015-2018.
