The Parliament today marked the joyous occasion of the 1st birth anniversary of His Royal Highness the Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck at the Gyelyong Tshokhang. Coinciding with the occasion, the third issue of the Legislative Journal and the Public Hearing Manual was launched. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Speaker of the National Assembly and the Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Council. Hon’ble Members of Parliament , Mr. Piet Vochten, UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Niamh Collier Smith, UN Resident Representative, UN officials and the parliamentary staff were also present at the event.
In his statement, the Hon’ble Speaker expressed that the past one year has been a year of three important occasions, Firstly; it was the monkey year during which Guru Padmasambhava was born who blessed the noble land of Bhutan in the 8th century. Secondly, Bhutan marked the 400th year since the arrival of Great Zhabdrung who shaped Bhutan’s unique identity in the 17th century. And thirdly and most importantly, the people of Bhutan were gifted with an extraordinary gift in the form of His Royal Highness the Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck.
The Hon’ble Speaker further said that the Public Hearing Manual will strengthen the workings of parliamentary committees while the Legislative Journal will help readers understand the various perspectives which exist in the legislative domain.
Mr. Piet Vochten, UN Resident Coordinator said that the publication of the Public Hearing Manual and the Legislative Journal signifies the growth and strengthening of the parliament as an institution. He also expressed the continued support of the UNDP towards the further strengthening of the Parliament.
Prayers for the good health and long life of His Royal Highness the Gyalsey were also offered during the occasion.
