Vietnamese Parliamentary delegation visits Gyelyong Tshokhang

Vietnamese Parliamentary delegation led by Dr. Dinh Xuan Thao, Member of committee on law and President of the Institute for Legislative Studies of Vietnam called on the Hon Dy. Speaker Chimi Dorji in the afternoon of 4th July 2015. The six member delegation was in the country for duration of three days.

The National Assembly unanimously passed the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2014-15 to the tune of Nu.44, 160.531 million. Parliament commends Bhutan’s record setting in the Guinness Book of World Records

On behalf of the Parliament, Hon Speaker Jigme Zangpo expressed his appreciation for the record set by Bhutan in the Guinness Book of World Records by planting 49,672 saplings in one hour by 100 volunteers yesterday at Kuenselphodrang in Thimphu. Ratifications of International Conventions and Frameworks

The National Assembly unanimously ratified the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) securing a total of 37 ‘Yes’ votes.
The UNCAC contains articles on corruption preventive measures, law enforcement crimes, international cooperation, asset recovery, information exchange and establishes conference of States Parties. The Minister for Home & Cultural Affairs informed that ratification of UNCAC will complement the already existing mechanisms and laws and hence build an effective system of governance.…....

National Assembly to join the AFPPD as a member

The House unanimously resolved to join as a member in the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians for Population and Development. The Hon Speaker informed that although Bhutan was not a member, the AFPPD has benefited the Bhutanese parliamentarians through exchange of experiences with Asian parliamentarians and moreover no membership fees were required to join the organization.

Minister for Finance presents Annual Budget Report for the financial year 2015-16

As per Article 14 (8) of the Constitution, the Minister for Finance presented the Annual Budget for the financial year 2015-16 and the report on the budget of the previous fiscal year.  The Minister for Finance reported that the total budget outlay for the financial year 2015-16 was Nu.50,713.707 million including both lending and repayment of which current expenditure was 47% and the capital expenditure was 46%.

His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo appoints the Secretary General of the National Assembly

On the 22nd of May, 2015, His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo appointed Mr. Sangay Duba, Dzongdag of Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag as the Secretary General of the National Assembly as per section 19 (n) of Article 2 of the Constitution.

The new Secretary General was granted dhar in the Golden Throne Room of Tashichhodzong.
