Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly

The National Assembly passed the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2016-17. The supplementary budget approved amounts to the tune of Nu. 262.808 million which takes the revised approved budget for the financial year 2016-17 to the tune of Nu. 55,091.036 million. The Bill received 39 votes in favour while two Members voted ‘No’ and one Member abstained from voting. There were 42 Members present during the voting.

National Assembly unanimously ratifies the Paris Agreement

The National Assembly today unanimously ratified the Paris Agreement after all 44 Members present voted in favour of the agreement to be ratified. The Speaker of the House expressed that the Paris Agreement which has been ratified with overwhelming support from the Members will greatly benefit the country in environmental conservation.

Paris Agreement tabled for ratification

The Minister for Agriculture & Forests moved the motion to introduce the Paris Agreement to the House today. Following a unanimous endorsement of the motion, the Minister informed the House on the objectives of the Paris Agreement. He said that one of the objectives of the agreement was limiting the increase in average global temperature.

Information, Communication & Media Bill introduced

The Minister for Information & Communications introduced the Information, Communication & Media Bill 2016 to the House for the first and second reading. The Minister said that the Bill was tabled mainly because the existing Act of 2006 had to be revised in the face of changing time. He also expressed that the new Act would enhance timely service delivery to people in information, communication and media sectors.

National Assembly unanimously passes the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill 2016

The National Assembly today unanimously passed the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill 2016 after all 44 Members present voted in favour of the Bill to be passed. The Speaker of the House expressed appreciation to all parties involved in drafting the Bill which he said would benefit the country and people.

Today, the House commenced its third reading on the Bhutan Red Cross Society Bill 2016. The Chairperson of the Legislative Committee submitted that the recommendations of the National Council and the Legislative Committee were presented for the third reading on the Bill.
