His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo graces the Opening Ceremony of the Ninth Session of the Second Parliament

Today His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo graced the opening ceremony of the Ninth Session of the Second Parliament. His Majesty was received in an elaborate chipdrel ceremony to the Gyalyong Tshogkhang and the occasion was marked by traditional Zhudrel Phunesum Tshogpai ceremony.

The Members of the Royal Family, representatives of the Central Monastic Body, senior government officials, representatives of the international community and the public attended the occasion.

More than 50 young parliamentarians from Asia-Pacific countries had gathered in Sri Lanka from 25-26 April 2017 to discuss their role in advancing inclusive and peaceful societies and preventing violent extremism in the region. Secretariat staff attend Leadership Course

A total of 13 Officers from the National Assembly Secretariat is attending a five day in-country training programme titled ‘Leadership: Leading to inspire’ in Phuentsholing from 6 -10 March, 2017. The training is aimed at equipping the participants with core leadership skills in order to enhance their professionalism. National Council endorses the resolutions of the National Assembly on Income Tax & Supplementary Budget

Speaker today informed the House that the National Council had deliberated and endorsed the resolutions of the National Assembly on Income Tax (Repeal of Certain Provisions) Bill 2016 and the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the Financial Year 2016-17. National Assembly adopts Trade, Commerce and Transit Agreement with India

House re-deliberates on the Sub-regional Motor Vehicle Agreement (BBIN)

The House re-deliberated on the Motor Vehicle Agreement between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN). The deliberations were based on 15 point objections transmitted by the National Council which deliberated and voted not to ratify the agreement on 15th of this month. The National Assembly passed the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2016-17. The supplementary budget approved amounts to the tune of Nu. 262.808 million which takes the revised approved budget for the financial year 2016-17 to the tune of Nu. 55,091.036 million. The Bill received 39 votes in favour while two Members voted ‘No’ and one Member abstained from voting. There were 42 Members present during the voting.

The Minister for Information & Communications introduced the Information, Communication & Media Bill 2016 to the House for the first and second reading. The Minister said that the Bill was tabled mainly because the existing Act of 2006 had to be revised in the face of changing time.
