Workshop conducted on Paperless initiatives

The officers and staff of the National Assembly Secretariat attended a half day workshop on Paperless Operations today in the Gyelyong Tshokhang conference hall. National Council endorses the resolutions of the National Assembly on Income Tax & Supplementary Budget

Speaker today informed the House that the National Council had deliberated and endorsed the resolutions of the National Assembly on Income Tax (Repeal of Certain Provisions) Bill 2016 and the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the Financial Year 2016-17. There have been no recommendations or objections on the above agenda from the National Council.

National Assembly adopts Trade, Commerce and Transit Agreement with India

The National Assembly today unanimously adopted the Trade, Commerce and Transit Agreement between Bhutan and India. There were a total of 43 Members present during the voting. House re-deliberates on the Sub-regional Motor Vehicle Agreement (BBIN)

The House re-deliberated on the Motor Vehicle Agreement between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN). The deliberations were based on 15 point objections transmitted by the National Council which deliberated and voted not to ratify the agreement on 15th of this month. National Assembly passes the Civil Aviation Bill of Bhutan 2015

The National Assembly today unanimously passed the Civil Aviation Bill of Bhutan 2015. There were 37 Members present during the voting. The Bill will now be submitted to His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo as per Article 13(6) of the Constitution for Royal assent.

Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly

The National Assembly passed the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2016-17. The supplementary budget approved amounts to the tune of Nu. 262.808 million which takes the revised approved budget for the financial year 2016-17 to the tune of Nu. 55,091.036 million. The Bill received 39 votes in favour while two Members voted ‘No’ and one Member abstained from voting. There were 42 Members present during the voting.

The Minister for Finance today introduced the Income Tax (Repeal of certain provisions) Bill of Bhutan 2016 in the National Assembly. Introducing the Bill, the Finance Minister submitted that once the Bill is passed, interest shall no longer be applicable to fixed deposits. At the same time, he said that the amended Income Tax Bill would promote savings in the banks and benefit loan lending.
