It may be recalled that initially the Royal Secretariat managed the functions of the National Assembly. However, with the increase in the functional responsibilities of the National Assembly, a separate Secretariat was established in 1973 in pursuance of Resolution No.6 of the Lhengyel Zhungtshog held on 26th February 1973.
The Secretariat is the primary support arm of the National Assembly. It provides professional, technical and administrative support services to the National Assembly’s multifarious activities under the direct responsibility of the Secretary.
The Secretariat consists of four main divisions:
Administrative and Finance Services Division
Information & Communication Services Division
Legal and Committee Services Division
Research and Hansard Services Division.
The Secretary is the Chief Executive Officer and accounting officer of the Secretariat who is assisted by the heads of divisions.
Each Division is under a Chief who is responsible for the efficient and effective performance of the Division under his/her supervision. Each Division is divided into sections as per the roles and responsibilities.
